Many device users rely on others to some degree for access to supports. Some people need help making sure their device is charged or available. Others may be physically dependent on someone to locate it or monitor where it is for access to their device. For me, I try to monitor it on my own, but I have limitations. My parents recently set up a charging station in a central part of the house so I always know where it is.
I need someone to hold it for me while I spell most of the time and need help remembering to bring it places. I want to be using it all the time, as it makes me feel more autonomous having my own voice.
If your support network doesn’t want to use the device, you may be out of luck. It is imperative that caregivers supporting a person who wants or needs to use a device, make it accessible to them at all times. We depend on your support for our communication.
