To me, summer tests how I can be outside as much as possible. The weather in Chicago in June is ideal. Going for a tandem bike ride (see video) with my dad is the best. Riding behind my dad is perfect. He steers/brakes and we both pedal. It is great exercise for both of us and it gets us out of the house and into the fresh air. We ride to the Botanic Garden, the forest preserve, Ravinia and the beach (see pictures below). My dad keeps an eye on me through the rear mirror and can stop if needed. Every time we ride, someone we pass tells us how much they like our bike. It is really cool and I recommend other autistic families give it a try.

What a great idea! Enjoy your bike rides! Love aunt Mary

Thank you for sharing your experience. It sounds like a lot of fun. I will read your post to my son, Matthew, who is also a nonspeaking autistic who spells to communicate. 🙂
