Happiness Falls – Book Review

I was interested in reading Happiness Falls because the main character is non-speaking, which is unique and a really good way to see how another person would react to a crisis who is like me. I usually read books about speakers. It was interesting to look at the story from the perspective of a non-speaker’s view when he heard his father was missing. He was underestimated and learned what a family could do to change minds so that all people are included, even non-speakers. More people should read this book and learn of the abilities we nonspeakers have (see Good Morning America video interview of the author).

I will reread this book to ponder some of the deeper messages like happiness and what it is. Readers have a lot to think about–disability, family, law enforcement, immigration.

Amplifying Potential Therapy hopes to have a book club on this book. We can learn from one another in the book club and read other meaningful books together.
