ABA stands for Applied Behavioral Analysis. I have been getting ABA services for a few years and have had mixed experiences. I have read bad stories about ABA from other people with autism, but I am here to share my positive experiences. I love my therapists and one in particular has really changed the way I look at life. I have gained more independence from ABA than any other therapy and it has made me hopeful for the future. I see it as you get what you make of it and I choose to make the most of my time with my therapists! How you look at things is what matters most and I just recently learned that from one of my ABA therapists. She comes to work everyday happy even though I know she has a lot going on. I am making progress with my attitude that I didn’t know I could because of ABA!
I believe ABA is seen badly because it is not for communication it is for behavior and people can’t see the difference. I have a lot of goals for ABA that have helped my communication, but my communication had to come in first. I learned RPM first and then I could show my abilities. Then ABA was worth my time. I am proud of how much I have done and I want to go to college! I know I can do it because my behavior will be in control! ABA has let me move my body where my head wants to go and I am proud of myself!
