I have epilepsy, which is very common in autistic people. I find that most people I know with epilepsy don’t talk about it. I wish more people did because it can cause feelings of isolation otherwise. I am happy to discuss my seizures because it helps me process it and also normalizes it for others.
Having seizures is scary because your body is completely out of your own control. It never happens at a predictable time and can be embarrassing to have happen in front of other people. I have learned to not be embarrassed by medical issues outside of my control. Everyone is dealing with something and I am no exception. I hope people with epilepsy can see that they are not alone. Epilepsy may make life more complex, but it doesn’t have to mean life is worse for me.

My 14 year old daughter is Autistic and has epilepsy. She was in the hospital last week after a seizure. Hugs to you.
