Aging Out of the School System

I am finally aging out of the school system (+transition services). For neurotypical people, this is often a very exciting time for the whole family. For people with disabilities, finishing school can be something we worry about and spend time planning for years. There is a lot of questions about where we will live, how we will stay busy, and what funding will allow us to do.

While I don’t have long-term housing planned, I do have an idea of how I want to spend my time now while I am with my family. I will continue my college classes online until I finish my degree. I will also keep going to therapies and groups at the clinic. Even though I will not continue receiving school physical education (PE), I want to keep up with exercise because I enjoy it and it helps me manage my energy. I also would love more opportunities to be out in the community in a variety of places. I want to prioritize down time too in this schedule change. I need alone time in my schedule for relaxation and regulation. I am not nervous about finishing school anymore, I’m excited.
