Traveling

I recently had a fantastic trip to Iceland with my family. Traveling with autism and epilepsy can seem intimidating, but it is well worth the effort. There are some things we did that made the trip much easier.

At the airport, it was helpful to have everything organized in advance to minimize time in security and crowds. It helps when the people you travel with are regulated well because they are confident in the airport. This helped me stay regulated too.

When choosing a place to go, I prefer places that are not very touristy. Places with heavy tourism tend to be more loud, disorganized, and chaotic. Places with a lot of open space with room for exploration are relaxing.

Food can be problematic with a gluten-free diet in other countries. It’s important to research what you can eat in advance. I also considered things I may want to try.

Everyone of all abilities should have the chance to travel if they want. With accommodations, traveling with autism was a great experience.
